The mandolate, the favorite sweet of the Venetians, came to Corfu during the Venetian Domination as it was the favorite sweet of the aristocracy. Its name comes from the Italian word mandorla (almond) and, besides almond, it also contains a lot of honey, a little sugar and a meringue of white eggs. It is a very traditional sweet of Corfu with an excellent flavor of dry nuts and honey, a crunchy texture which becomes soft during chewing, leaving a sweet aftertaste. It is an ideal snack, while it can also accompany coffee and tea excellently. It can be found in three flavors, classic, with various fruit and with kumquat.
